Kirk Christensen, Elder
Kirk is a Los Alamos native. He was born here in 1957, the 4th of 5 children. Today he lives with his own family of five children in White Rock in the same house he grew up in. He moved away from Los Alamos only twice to pursue education: a semester in Georgia at Toccoa Falls Bible College, three years at the University of Alabama to complete his mechanical engineering degree, and one year in 1984 to obtain his Masters degree at the University of Texas, Austin.
In 1967, Kirk’s family began attending Trinity Bible Church. There, at the age of 10, Kirk committed himself to the Lord during an evangelistic service. It wasn’t a radical, overpowering experience for Kirk, but rather a deeply fundamental change that encompassed his entire life. In high school, Kirk witnessed to his friends and his extracurricular activities were almost entirely related to the church. After graduation, during his semester at Toccoa Falls Bible College, he made it a priority to seek out God regarding His direction for his life. He returned home and spent the next semester at the University of New Mexico at Los Alamos while continuing to concentrate on God’s leading. In his sophomore year he transferred to the University of Alabama to finish his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.
Kirk has indeed served the church over the years: as a deacon, youth group leader, a trustee, and currently as an elder. Kirk first became an elder for Trinity Bible Church in 1993, and continued in that role when the church became Crossroads Bible Church. For Kirk, the role of an elder is to be a shepherd/superintendent for the church. His responsibility is to oversee and support the spiritual health of the congregation and the church’s ministries. Kirk is excited about the opportunities to expand ministries since the church merger. “The enthusiasm of the people to give of themselves here has been very encouraging”, he says. He is excited about where the Lord will lead the church in the future as we step out in faith; not ahead of Him , but certainly not behind. |
